More than
any other request, we at Amplify hear from corporations and associations
seeking speakers and entertainers who will be a key force in driving
registration TO and buzz ABOUT their events.
After all,
event planners have a great deal riding on the success and size of an
event
and speakers play a big role in event promotion. For the
vast majority of events, speakers' reputations and material are a major
factor in the perception and popularity of events.
The right
speaker, business expert or comedian can incent, excite and entice registrants
to spend time and money on your event
can serve as the perfect
feel-good solution to honor attendees at an awards banquet
and,
after sales events, can beef up your company's bottom line.
Speaker/headliner
ideas include:
- A buzz
worthy business expert who knows your industry-and yet is enough of
a generalist to bring a fresh perspective
- A well-known,
or even a regionally known, corporate comedian. This is an especially
popular choice for organizations in the Pacific Northwest, who call
upon iconic comedians from the buzz-worthy show, Almost Live!.
- More
and more, organizations are turning up the volume on creativity and
uniqueness by commissioning a one-of-a-kind
song written and performed live just for their organization, or
for a specific subset of attendees. This is an experience few will
ever forget.
- A record-setting
man athlete. Mountaineers are an especially common choice (such as
Sue Ershler, Jim
Whittaker, Ed Viesturs, and John
Amatt)
Additional
Planning Points:
- How
to best "nail it"? Whenever possible, survey attendees
or prospective attendees well in advance to get their input on who
rises to the top of their wish lists. Who would they most be driven
to experience live and in person?
- What
sponsorship dollars may be available to you to help fund a
speaker, in exchange for solid exposure for the sponsor? Some speakers,
comedians in particular, will even incorporate into their program
customized material or humor about the sponsor to make it even more
worth their investment.
- Remember
to always ask: What do you want your attendees to think or feel
after the speaker has presented? The answer to this question inevitably
sheds critical light on the type of speaker you are seeking, and will
save you time in your selection process.
- What
would an overall event home run look like?
- If you've
set a theme, ensure that the speaker's credentials, values and topics
align well with that themeand you'll get more bang for your
buck.
- If you
choose or plan to choose a speaker who has authored a book,
consider incenting attendees further by offering a free or discounted
copy of the book if they register early ("The first 50 Early
Bird registrants receive a SIGNED copy of our speaker's book!")
- Plan
to include information about the headlining speaker in ALL your
promotional materialsprinted, electronic, and verbal.
- Ensure
your organization's values and mission align well with that
of your talent to provide continuity and more promotional punch
