Warren Etheredge As founder of The Warren Report in Seattle, WA, Warren Etheredge curates and hosts over 200 events every year, a podcast and television series. The Warren Report promotes "slow culture" through commentary, outreach, events and education. Warren has conducted over 1,500 interviews - in print, on camera, on stage - with a wide range of filmmakers, personalities and smarties--including Amy Sedaris, Darren Aronofsky, Michael Pollan, Charlie Kauffman, Naomi Watts, Salman Rushdie, Robert Duvall, Alexander Payne, Nora Ephron, Augusten Burroughs and Chuck Palahniuk. Additionally, Warren is one of the founding faculty of the Seattle-based FilmSchool, along with Tom Skerritt, Stewart Stern, Rick Stevenson and John Jacobsen. For six years, Warren served as the Curator for the 1 Reel Film Festival (at Bumbershoot), and before that, he worked with the Seattle International Film Festival. Warren has also staged over 40 plays in New York, published five books, written countless magazine articles and recently completed a feature-length documentary, HUMOR ME. He is the host of Words & Wine and The Good Life, conversation series with A-list authors, and is a regular contributor to PubliCola and Seattle's premiere public radio station, KUOW. He speaks and serves as master of ceremonies at festivals and conferences nationwide, including The Screenwriting Expo, The Austin Film Festival and Conference, Bastyr University's Founders Weekend and Gnomedex. Beyond that, Warren hosted a special screening and community discussion of A WALK TO BEAUTIFUL, the award-winning documentary about obstetric fistulas, with medical experts and supporters of the cause. He also has a long-standing relationship with Seattle-based Bastyr University, chairing their 3-part series on the intersection of spirituality, psychology and medicine, and hosting events with Michael Pollan and Dr. & Mrs. Mehmet Oz. Additionally, he serves as MC for Bastyr's Founders Gala/Award dinner, as well as the ringmaster for Circus of Dreams, a high-flying function to benefit pediatric brain tumor research. His keynote programs include: The Extemporaneous Life In over 1,500 interviews with the famous, the infamous and the ordinary, Warren Etheredge has never prepared more than a single question. Whether asking Dan Pink, former speechwriter for Al Gore, if writing for his old boss was like providing choreography for Stephen Hawking, quizzing Oprah-outed author/prevaricator James Frey how he felt putting actual facts in his new book or sharing a flask with Rob Corddry while debating if 9am is too early to start drinking in Central Park, Warren believes in going unscripted on camera and off. Day to day, Warren leads The Extemporaneous Life, believing that in this era of specialization we've become so familiar with our routines, we've forgotten the joy of surprise, the glory of the unexpected. In narrowing our career paths and crafting our life-narratives, we ignore that we are more likely to create, innovate and love when we not only live in the moment but submit to it fully. True to this belief, Warren risks everything, relying on instinct and inspiration to guide him through stand-up comedy, celebrity interviews and regular radio and television appearances. In this special presentation, Warren recounts many of his favorite all-star encounters and spontaneous highlights and teaches you how to trust yourself enough to embrace... The Extemporaneous Life. Amongst the stars with whom Warren has gone off the cuff and on the record: Woody Allen, Amy Sedaris, Sir Salman Rushdie, Ruth Reichl, Robert Duvall, Mariel Hemingway, Chuck Pahlaniuk, Nora Ephron, Michael Pollan, Naomi Watts, Ethan Hawke, Sandra Tsing Loh and Calvin Trillin. LEADING BY LISTENING Plenty of people talk a good game. The smartest listen-then win. To hone the competitive edge, we must sharpen our conversational skills, trusting that we learn more when others speak. We better serve our clients, customers and colleagues when our own talk tacits and we embrace their input, insights and inventiveness. Of course, shutting up is much more difficult than it seems, for the Art of Listening requires more than simply zipping our lips. Habitually and neuro-economically, we are accustomed to forming responses/opinions and expressing thoughts before others have even uttered a complete sentence. (Bet you're doing it right now!) Fortunately, cultural conversationalist and corporate consultant Warren Etheredge is a master of immersive interlocution. He's established a veritable gold standard for the discipline of discourse having conducted over 1,500 interviews - with the likes of Sir Salman Rushdie, Dan Pink, Michael Pollan, Oliver Stone and Vincent Bugliosi - for radio, television, publication and the general public. Warren knows how to listen proactively, absorbing speakers' secret messages and prompting the revelation of game-changing truths. (It's common for Warren's guests to say: "I've never told anyone that" or "I've never understood that ‘til just now.") In this interactive program, Warren teaches you the grace of the "pause," the poetry of the "tell" and the science of observation. Warren will radically alter how you hear and significantly improve how you speak. Talk may be cheap and silence may be golden, but only conversation is priceless. The ability to engage others in meaningful dialogue is a sustainable resource that can ensure your success if you learn to lead by listening. LEADING BY LISTENING provides executives, managers and entry-level employees with a blueprint for constructive communication skills to unlock individual potential to further corporate goals. Learn how to get the most out of interactions with co-workers and how best to surpass customer expectations to increase future demand and brand loyalty. After his talk, Warren will lead attendees in role-playing interview exercises, targeting weakness and strengths of the participants and providing direct feedback to improve conversational skills.
